THE STRAIT TIMES – HOME – H1 19 December 06
RUNAWAY GIRL, 16
The first time I saw her poster, I was thinking this girl must be a minah. And it led me thinking that this girl must have been a real rebel which was why she ran away from home since 25 Oct 06. Sad to say, she ran away on the 2nd day of Hari Raya. Just to get the freedom to be with her beloved “Friends” and her “Boyfriend”. Why teenagers nowadays can’t think well? They sacrificed so much for their friends and partners, which definitely won’t be with them till eternity. In the end, where are they? Are they by your side? Sigh.. I really pity them and their parents. Sweet 16 but she needs to spend her live – paralysed. She won’t be able to lead a normal life like how she used to. She won’t be able to walk. She won’t be able to help her parents when they turn old.
She rather sleeps at the esplanade than her bed at home. She rather do her laundry at her friends place than let her mom do it for her at home (maybe). She rather works in coffee shop at this age than doing well in her studies and maybe has a better job. Now she is not aware that she won’t be able to walk and her parents have to prepare themselves for the worst.
So many questions? So much of worries for this girl when I don’t even know her. But my heart goes for her. It’s sad to know that she regretted in this manner. I really hope that other teenagers won’t do what she did. She not only caused her life but her parents life.

Upon hearing of such stuff happening..I’m thankful I had super strict parents who made sure I steered clear of problems during my teen years
nana, im glad to hear that. that means ur teen life is a good one. as for my own teen life, not good but worth it..
i dont know how people turn the way the are. bad parenting? bad companies? everyone like to put the blame on others but never themselves. If they say their parents work and never at home, well there are kids who’s parents had to work (mine included), but we still turn out alright. there are those who lost their parents, and they still turn out decent. I am so angry!!! To think that these people will lead the country. in 20 years time, i wont be surprise if i see more screwed up parents.
teeshah – i agree with you.. i think its all individuality. what to do.. we can never be perfect and i hope ppl can learn from other ppl mistakes..
