A complain which they should really take it seriously. Look at the timing of the pictures. I am not making up stories nor am I trying to ruin their reputation. No pictures of me cos I wasn’t smiling and I was pissed off!
What kind of service do you expect from any food chains/ restaurant? At least the basic courtesy and friendliness no matter how slow your service is right? Even if the food sucks, everyone expect friendliness from the staffs and especially the boss right? Am I wrong to say that?
How about during fasting month? What do you expect the owner or the staffs to do; especially when they are Muslims or they know that Muslims wants to break their fast and required to break fast on time?
- You expect them to serve at least a glass of water for them to break fast!
- You expect them to serve you instead of dilly-dally.
- When customers ask you a particular question, you got to answer their question instead of telling them “Well, Are you ready to take your order?!”
WHAT THE FUCK! I rushed to el-sheikh with Teni to break our fast. We took our seat and they serve us glass of water with some dates to break our fast. I asked for their menu but they only serve buffet for breaking fast. Ala-carte will only be serve after 8.30pm. So we skipped the idea and went to Amirah’s grill which is just next door cos there wasn’t much time as the prayer call is starting in 10 minutes.
The food was ok lah! It can never be compared to El-Sheikh seriously. Meanwhile I heard 2 couples complaining that their service were damn slow!
1st TURN OFF - no one smile and direct us to any seats. Ok fine, the place is not crowded at all; we are free to choose any seats we want. Fine!
2nd TURN OFF – There were around less than 5 couples who dined in the other day. It wasn’t crowded and there were staffs. The service was damn slow. The prayer is starting anytime soon. No drinks being serve. No one took any order from us or even give us the menu. No one check around to see who is not being serve. We waited for someone to make eye contact with us in order for us to ask for the menu and the glass of water.

3rd TURN OFF – Only one waiter, one lady who prepares the drink, 2 of them were in the kitchen and one boss. When your staffs are busy and slow, what should the boss do? Help around! It’s ok for a boss to help. It’s your business anyway! I am sure you hate receiving complains from customer! My god! The boss face was so black and he was busy with his company accounts. Until I got pissed off, I ….
Yanni: Excuse Me? No one look at me. (My voice was quite loud given the place was not crowded! And there goes, the prayer calls… Allah Akhbar Allah Akhbar….)
Yanni: Excuse Me? (The boss finally realised from his own world dot com, came to us) Can we have 2 glass of plain water for us to break fast? (His face sucks; he is not a muslim meh! Tak puasa ke pakcik oi!)

No sorry and nothing at all, he asked his staff to get us 2 glass of water. Damn it! Tak dengar azan ke! I was damn pissed. The staff served us and I told him sarcasticly – “Are you going to give us the menu for us to take order?” The boss heard me saying that.
He came over to take our order. I asked him, “Which meal between this 2 will take longer time to prepare?”
He replied rudely – “Well, Are you ready to take your order?”
Opposite me was Teni seating; asking me to be patient but I could see that Teni was pissed off too.
Then I answered him – “You are not answering my question. I am asking you which meal between this 2 will take longer time to prepare cos I am fasting and I am hungry!”
He said - “Oh you can go for buffet then. If you want ala-carte, you have to wait longer.”
Yanni - “No, I don’t want any buffet; I want ala-carte, which one between this 2 meal can be ready anytime soon?”
Oh Man, he is not answering any of my questions and he kept repeating that I have to wait longer if I insist on ala-carte.
Eh sia lah, dia bodoh ke pekak sia!
Yanni – “Forget it, give me fish n chips, and for him will be blah blah blah. I can’t remember what it was called.”

After 15 minutes, the food was served. The food wasn’t that bad. I still prefer El-Sheikh.
Guess what? Not even a thank you when Teni settles for the bill. Not even a smile when we took our leave. Damn it! Now, I am wondering how the girls recently enjoyed themselves at Amirah’s Grill. Was it because it’s a good deal, cos they got to pay a certain amount to book the room upstairs? Was it because of the big group of 40 ladies that the boss went – Wow Aku kaya!
It was my first and will be the last visit to Amirah’s Grill. I know I won’t be giving much business as it was just 2 sets of meal. I don’t expect tip top 5 star service. But I expect the boss to be more humble, friendly and have initiatives to help out the staffs if they are busy or slow.
A boss can be a customer too. Everyone of us is a customer. Always put yourself in customer’s position. I am sure you wouldn’t want such service from someone else right. So, please don’t be so stuck up and unfriendly, I got your name card. Oh I see so he used to be the executive chef and he is now a director. So what!

hmmm…
i went there with my husband once. just like u, that was our first and last time there.
the service was ok when we went there but there was nothing spectacular about the food. dats 1 main reason why i won’t be coming back again.
i think the food served at banquet is way better.
i prefer to spend my money on better food and service.
hahaha the service sucks that day… you see the 2nd picture how empty the place is. not many ppl… slack seh..
Salaams!I attibute this all to the trial and tribulations of the fast…Sabar..no point losing “points” kan..I know its hard but you know…
Sabar je lah as you told me k…Take care
ish tengah sabar ni… hahaah!!!
Banyak bersabar cik Yanni.. hehe
Ni semua.. cobaan..
Hi,
I’m new here and I’m a big fan of Amirah’s Grill. So I’m surprised about this post since Amirah’s Grill is actually one of the better middle-east restaurant around (to me anyway). Been a customer with them since their Joo Chiat days.
I don’t think the guy in the picture is the boss. If I’m not wrong, the boss is much younger-looking guy with a beard.
In my opinion, you went to the wrong place at the wrong time. Middle-eastern food takes time to prepare and are not really known for their service. Its more of a place to chill out than anything else. From my own experience, asking for ala carte in these type of places for iftar when buka time is less than 30 minutes away is asking for trouble. Best go for buffet and save yurself the heartburn.
Anyway, its Ramadan, ampun kan dorang saja. No point being upset abt this since its unlikely that they’ll come to your house for hari raya to mintak maaf.
hi nouffer,
thanks for your comment. oh you big fan of amirahs. too bad im not a big fan of amirah’s, want to try them out but too bad, it sucks. and i dont think i will ever be one too..
in my opinion, if they know middle eastern food takes time to prepare and are not known for their service, then they should do something to it to make every customer smiles and give thumbs up to them. its not the customer problem. get more staffs, since they are so popular and doing good since joo chiat, im sure they can afford to hire. especially during ramadhan, especially if your location is at central of singapore.. if they are not up to the customers expectation when comes to service, then too bad, others will take over..
anyway, the “so call boss” doesnt answer my question.. and he only answered my question after 3 times.
by the way, buffet was prepared much earlier and they will leave there to heat up. that particular moment, the place wasnt crowded at all, only 2 couples asked for ala-carte, so i don’t see the reason why they took so long to prepare, took so long to give me a menu, took so long to serve me a drink, took so long to come and take order from me.
I didnt order middle eastern food, its fish n chips… cos im hungry and i know i couldnt wait longer…
no drinks being serve which is a stupid mistake. oh if they come to my house, i wont serve any drinks at all, nor i will ask them to take a seat. nor i will smile at them, nor i will say thank you… just kidding.
anyway, no offence, im just speaking out.
maybe im in the line where i interact and communicate with people, therefore I expect every front line, customer service in any aspectsto be ok if not excellent at least.
2 weeks more to go. selamat hari raya..
i hope im talking sense here… have a gd day!
yanni!! how has fasting been?? i baru ingat nak go there this weekend sey but u’re not the onli one yg ader bad experience. some of my friends said the same thing!! hmmph!! take care love…
hello fezah, im good. fasting month tiring as usual.
you gi next door, el-sheikh, go for their ala-carte, or try their el-sheikh sandwich. punya lah tender… alamak dah lapar sikit seh rasa perut ni… ahhaha!!! haha, so im the only one, i tot my expectations too high… u take care too!
Alahai.. Fish & chips aje? Hehhee..
then yang lain semua confirm take longer time… and im damn hungry what… so fish n chips je lah…
hi Yanni.. sorry to hear that…
I never face such experience during fasting month though I was once made to wait for about 1 hour for my food and I can understand what’s your feeling.
Anyway this is 3rd world mentality. When I was in the States, the service was simply superb. Well don’t compare to the States just compare to our neighbor, Thailand and Singapore, customer service is number one priority.
Hmm… maybe the myth about people offered better service to foreigner but lousy one to the local is true.. yet as most of us know, the fastfood restaurant always greets their customers with a smile. This is because they have an SOP to follow. When you go to 7-11 for example, the staff will always greet you with selamat malam or selamat pagi and do come again.
So I guess this particular outlet either doesn’t have the standard operating procedures or their staff did not follow it.
Anyway bad publicity for them…
1 hour!!! if it was me, thats it lah. got iraq and us war in that restaurant already…
by the way, not all 7-11 greets you. its the staff lah actually who ruins it…
Hey Yanni I’m really sorry to hear about the terrible experience in that lousy restuarant. Well business ethics say that restuarant owners have to respect the request and demand of their customers as long as they ‘re reasonable, and I can see that you’re completely reasonable in getting angry with the owner. As far as I know, the owner of any restaurant is a worker too! Don’t forget, peopel call them self-employed people. Being the owner doesn’t sort of “grant” the owners “immunity” towards serving the customers. They have to understand that they’re working in a very competitive industry and once your service is seen as substandard / inferior, people will be more than happy to turn to other outlets for food.
I think the rudest thing to have ever happen in the restaurant is to have waiters / waitresses ignoring the pleas from the customers to attend to them. Doesn’t this completely contradict the word “service industry”, considering that restaurants are part of the industry?
hmmm.
Like what ronn has mentioned, the service in US restaurants are superb! I’ve never been there though, but through my friends personal accounts I am pretty sure that the service standards in the US is much higher! My female classmate went to Florida last year end and she told me that the waitresses there are very friendly, calling her “sweetie” or “honey”, and attends to her immediately when she asks for. I don’t mean that we should call waitresses around just because we see them as people who have the responsibility to serve us as we’ve paid for it, but just that the basic, fundamental service standards should be in place.
I’m glad that you’ve brought up this issue to share with us. Some people may think this is some kind of slandering or defamation, but I would like to see it more as citizen journalism, where people report true things around them without the interference of any media corporation, and this is where the true image of the society lies. This will warn people about their bad service, unless the restaurant tries to improve it!
Take care!
ok they can call me sweetie, honey but they better not call my bf sweetie honey lil cute pie. i will take their apron and stuff it in their mouth.. hahahhaha!!!! or maybe wrap thei head with it. heheheh!!! no lah just kidding. im not that obsessed!!!
anyway, i always like your comment. your comment is always long but reasonable, and good! welcome back, its been long time since i last seen you around!
im very particular about service, really. i think if im the manager in charge of customer service, the staffs under me will be very scared of me, cos i will not hesitate to terminate anyone with bad customer service, no professionalism. i dont care if the company im working with is SME or MNC.
Ye cik yanni ini semua cubaan man….just liek i kena “food spew” dengan this fugly ah-lian outside SMU.
But it’s good you spoke up, but it was me, I’d have walked out int he boss’ face and probably toss the menu somewhere.
fugly ah lian… ewww, i wonder how she looks like… cobaan..
So bad you’d feel like spitting in her face.
sucks isnt it? biler the people ard you just make ur blood but you cant scold or curse or swear just because you are fasting. grrrrrrr. at times like this, i just wish the animals from jumanji will pass by and stomp the person/place to death..
hahah. sadistic i know (:
…make your blood boil i mean.. HEHE (:
i didnt have time to reply comments just now, i was too busy. but reading your comment, made me laughed in the office, i was imagining that the amirah’s grill being attacked by jumanji and the executive chef or the managing director kena stamp by the big elephant!!! hahahahah!!!
this is one of the few reasons why i do not like to break fast outside. either because place is fully booked by 5pm (5 freaking pm sia! kiasu pe?!), or i’m afraid i wont break fast in time. anyway, the problem here is not because food service is slow. the problem is… they didn’t take the initiative to offer you something small, be it dates or water, for u to break fast while waiting for ur food to come.
exactly… but el sheikh serves me with glass of water + dates promptly without waiting for me to settle down n take a seat… imagine how fast they were the other day… but too bad, its buffet, and i cant eat that much, and also there is no beef or other nice dishes… only mutton which i dont like, and chickens which i quit eating them for like 2 months plus…
Feeling so sorry for you, we live in the UK and even though it is a english country if we need to go out to break our fast they always have something ready to give to the fasting people and somemore it is free of charge, obviously they want some rewards from the Almighty, anyway take care and send salaam to Teni.
i belief the service in UK and other foreign countries are better. they are well trained and well paid too…
sure i will send your regards to him. by the way you know teni?
shame them on the papers. don give them face. restaurants like this ought to be taught a lesson they will never forget.
nasib baik ramadhan, if not i would have publish more photos… errm no lah i malas lah nak gi ke papers..
Hi Yanni, yeh i know tenni ask him who he knows in the UK, we have so many good memories of our times together when i pop into Spore. !!!
are you his cousin?
Yep you got it, the one and only from the UK, also tell amir his girlfriend seems nice, anyway ramadhan mubarak to you all. take care, Shanaz. x
wahh Yanni..your blood go upstaris is it???heheheh…

oh my.. i’ve never been there yet, though. and when i read this entry of yours, i have doubts dining in Amirah’s Grill in future. teeheee!
hmmm, maybe im just unlucky.. u can give it a try if you want, try both el sheikh and amirahs… and u will know what im talking about.
tu namanya cubaan ramadhan. banyak2 bersabar… banyak pahala…

Oh my gosh! These people really was just so useless! If I am the waiter there I will be there to take your order and make you comfortable strait away! What wrong with them!? Not only that, but by the look of the restaurant you would expect they’ll be some sort of classy coz of all the nice decor! And the buffet? They call them selves Egyptian! Fuck, even a MCDonalds will served better than them! Surprised he’s not a muslim too! Too bad not all the waiter is like me.
dakota he is a muslim , his name is a muslim name.. but i have no idea why he’s like that… ppl like him spoils the company reputation., yeah even fast food restaurant service are tip top… im sure you are a good waiter with a nice smile!
ooh ooh… btw, sorry I didn’t chat you last night, I had to get off the internet
its ok, i didnt log online back either. i went out..
Asalamualaikum… sorry i guess i am yearsssssssss late on this review:) i just read through it now after 3 odd years and i find that some mistaken identity can actually cost a lot of loss to another innocent person:) I am just correcting what i know for sure is wrong here.. no hard feelings
First and foremost, the BOSS, DIRECTOR, SOLE PROPRIETOR, OWNER, what so ever you called it is named HAJI ASHRAF MOHAMED ABDEL MOATY AHMED, a born egyptian. Therefore, the guy whose picture you took above is NOT the Boss.. instead he is the useless supervisor that used to work for Amirah’s Grill named David Periera… and he is not a muslim for your kind info Yanni.
I can understand your frustration when i am reading this 3 years after the incident dated above but i guess the business is already suffering from a bad write up on wrong identity such as above.
From my perspective, the owner’s name (who is innocent) in this picture is badly tarnished by this blog..
I hope after all the years.. you have forgiven the restaurant’s mistake and i doa that Allah swt forgives you and them for all this misunderstanding that has in one way or another affect Amirah’s Grill’s reputation (good and bad).. I am just and outsider who happens to know more about Amirah’s Grill than anybody else should…
Sorry again for reminding you the past incident but i guess it is just right as a muslims, we stand up for the right and rectify the mistakes should we see it as i have now shown this particular article to the Boss and he is very sorry he is not present at the moment to rectify it himself to save him from his staffs negligence…
May Allah swt forgive us all… Asalamualaikum warahmatullah hiwabarakatuh
hey dont worry. i appreciate your comment. and your comment will speak for his innocence.
