In case you don’t know,

I AM VERY AFRAID OF

LION DANCE!

Currently, my workplace having a lion dance ceremony. My heart beat damn super fast and I dare not look at the Lion Eyes! I tried to act cool. Don’t want to show my colleagues…. Haha! So scary lah. Really… The reason why I am afraid of this occasion was because…

When I was still a kid back then, should be around 4 to 5 years old. I was at my previous house. Mom told me to help her buy some groceries at the shop just below. Each time I helped Mom to buy groceries or clean the house, I will get 50 cents to save in my piggy bank. The most was $1.00.

While I was looking around for the items, I didn’t know that the shop is going to have a lion dance ceremony. As soon I was about to pay, the lion straight appear right in front of my tiny face and start to do their routine. I screamed and burst out crying and ran below the cashier table. Lucky that Uncle Tan (the owner of the shop) know where I stay, he tried so hard to pacify me with some candies and asked me to stop crying. He carried some of the stuffs I bought and sent me upstairs. I meant sent me home. Since then, I dare not go near the lion dance.

Dammit, until now the lion dance haven’t stop! KNN! Noisy sia! Go back home lah and don’t come near my desk! Aku takut bodoh!!

now that u mentioned it i have a funny story to share. the other day i spent the chinese new year at Malaysia. my family and I went to the nearby Jusco mall at night. there were kids playing at the playground at the food court. then suddenly the lion dance datang buat bising. ape lagi…. budak2 yang kat playground tu terperanjat lah and nangis. nangis as in takut seram nye nangis. it was really funny. you should see the faces of these kids. they ran and hide behind their mother when they hear the lion dance come near them.

Actually I never really liked looking at lion dance performances when I was young, because I hated how the drums made my heart beat… I hate how it resonanted with my heartbeat, for every thump from the drum my heart stopped beating, eeeks. And not to forget the loud crashing noises of the instruments.

But now I’m quite okay with the crashing noises, but not with the drums though :???: I just stay as far away as possible.

HahaX. I’m afraid of loud noises too and Lion dance is very very loud! But I bear with it coX in Sg we celebrate the differences among races ehX? The reason why it’s loud is because there’s some origin somewhere along the lines of Lion dance is for scaring away the evil monster Nian that appears during CNY. So it has to be loud. HahaX.

  14. wei lian says:

ur fear will disappear if u decide to become the head of the lion.

My first experience with a lion dance was when i was about your age at My Aunty’s resturaunt.

I was that scared, i had to go hide in the Toilets with one of my other Aunty.

Still scared t this day.

  18. colbie says:

    I have the same problem…….
evr since I was a kid I always hated them….. I was afraid of them because……..because/……..idk……
every time there’s a celebration there would always be a ceremony like that……
I would start to shake n run n cry…..I would turn really red……..
my parents n my sisters always laugh at me n they tell all their friends my problem……..
n every time they remember how weird I am they’ll talk about it n laugh a lot like their announcing my weirdness,…….. it’s really embarrassing…….
when their was a…… Chinese New Year’s event in my school……. n it was the first time that they hired a “lion dance” to perform in our school…….
I prayed that I would be cool w/ it cause it will be so embarrassing if my school finds out……. they’ll think I’m a freak! :!:

  19. colbie says:

    I’m chinese 75% n fil 25% I live in the Phil…….
BTW it’s glad to know that someone else has……… the same prob as me…….
